The Checkerboard Tavern is a gem of a bar located on Sprague Ave. The bar was opened in 1933 on the heels of prohibition and holds the distinction of having the longest liquor license for an establishment in one location in the state of Washington.

Located in the heart of the Spokane International District, the Checkerboard Tavern proudly displays its heritage and the jukebox is still 5 songs for a dollar. The “Check” as it is affectionately called, now offers an updated food menu including vegan options, local microbrews and wines, big screen TV’s and an outdoor patio.

The Checkerboard’s eclectic decor includes a Canada corner with all things Canadian and a collection of vintage motorcyles.

Look for special themed nights, and Peanut Wednesday.
